Advanced Drum Set Lessons
(Preliminaries: Moeller Method and Constant-Release)
Question: Have you ever wondered why Buddy Rich was able to perform dynamically with power, speed, and musicality that surpassed other drummers? At age 50-60 you would have expected his physical strength to decline and muscle movements to become limited.
Answer: Unlike many modern methods that support "exercise-training" for muscle strength, his performances were based on a methodology, using the least muscle with as little effort as possible to produce
immense power, control and speed. This methodology is used by many top-level drummers. The Moeller Method and "Constant-Release" are two such techniques, that are classified in this category.

circularity of motion develop a more ergonomic approach to the instrument. A more effective use of the drummer's anatomy.

1) Below, a Horatio “El Negro" Hernandez style Mambo with left foot clave.

2) On this, Consider developing the above, using a single paradiddle-diddle of six notes (below), we then, use the same sticking pattern, diminishing it rhythmically, only, to a five note phrase, notice the sticking pattern remains RLRRLL, (below).

3) Then, we have Polyrhythmic Independence with the, above, five note pattern and the original left foot clave ostinato.
